In reality they would only select THE BEST Actions available to carry out such conversions. The Action Strap still detailed with the correct Crown and GR beneath for King George. Date of 1917 and SHT LE III. Made in England to the Left. Barrel also Detailed as follows: The Birmingham Small Arms Company Ltd. England. HEAVY .303 TARGET BARREL to the top. Proof stamp shows B to left quadrant, 4 below and C right. That tells you who and when if you care to look things up.

100% Original Bright Finished Bolt with the Correct / Period Cocking indicator. Full replacement Sporting Stock and Forend Upgrade. The Butt finished with 1” (25mm) Red Recoil Pad, A Black Grip Cap and a Rosewood Forend Tip. The Action itself still its Original Deep Lustrous Gun Blued finish. Barrel more a matt, dark grey ‘Parkerised’ and 11 degree angle Target Crown Muzzle.

Detachable Flush Finish 5 Round Magazine and the exact same fitting as a standard 10 round option.

The Rifle WILL come supplied with a GENUINE, BRAND NEW (though admittedly water damaged) old stock PH24 Scope Base. I WILL generally also have available matching Authentic Parker Hale Scope Rings in inch as well as 26mm. High and Low.

A Good few years ago now my Best Friend and business partner Brian wanted near enough exactly this rifle. As things worked out we ended up with another the same age. Before doing much of anything it was taken out to test fire. BAD NEWS! He could manage 3 out of 5 rounds onto an A4 at 100 Yards! I did marginally better with all 5 on paper but everything scattered all over. Bri went home severely disappointed. I was certain the bulk of the problem was the trigger. It was DREADFUL. Basically they are. Anyway, I stripped things down and went to work with a file. In reality I probably went slightly too far. The bolt had to be closed with downward pressure for the sear to engage. The result: A WW1 – 2 rifle, circa 100 years old, that HAPPILY shot a sub inch group at the obligatory 100 Yards.

BACK to the Gun:

Barrel measures 18 ½” (470mm) with the stock length of 14 ¼” (363mm). Combined they bring in an O/A tip to toe of 38 ¾ (985mm) and Bare Weight of 7Lbs 5oz (3.307 Kg).

If only he was still here this would not be listed. I KNOW he would have grabbed it and ‘ran’. As things are someone else does now get the opportunity to take it home.

I HAVE taken this out and fired it. More for the fond memories than much of anything else. Whilst its not as good as that the trigger is still seriously inconsistent. Pretty sure with a little work and ammunition it likes this will prove as accurate as most things brand new today. Especially given THIS has been a SELECTED ‘In House’ Sporting Conversion.

We ALL also need to remember that the .303 British has likely accounted for more ‘game’ than anything else. That’s two legged as well as four! When this came out of Birmingham we had an Empire that stretched around the globe. As the saying went: ‘The Sun never set’!

As such its fare to say the calibre will have been used for just about anything anywhere. Even dangerous game if for no other reason than its all there was.

ZERO reason why its not still used far more extensively for stalking etc. today. Bullet is certainly more than capable and equally as good as anything else currently available.

As said, A RARE little Rifle. TRY find another! ESPECIALLY WITH this Barrel / Detail.
