Description

J.F. SMYTHE 16 GAUGE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN.

A nice British side by side by a quality maker.
Smythe worked for Alex Henry and Trulock and Harris before taking over the firm of David Brebner.
He was regarded as one of THE finest Provincial gunmakers in the country.

English 16G S/S.Boxlock, ejector.
Belgian pressed steel, 29½” ‘faceted’ barrels, signed, with engine turned rib.
Quarter & imp.
Engraved action, top lever and trigger guard, etc.
Very light pitting to inner walls, but lots of life remaining in a very nice ‘local’ gun, in otherwise excellent condition.
History (and Google!) tell us that this renowned gunmakers once demolished a substantial part of Darlington town centre, when his workshop exploded in his absence!
