Kimber of Oregon, USA. Model 89 BGR Bolt Action Safari Rifle in .375 Holland and Holland Magnum.
LOOKING at this it has (like so many large calibre rifles) spent most of its life stood in a cabinet. As such the recoil pad is showing light signs of pressure though is still perfectly OK. Otherwise the rifle is not far from new. As said, most Heavy / Safari / Dangerous Game Calibre Rifles never get THAT much use anyway. There are not THAT many people out there who get the opportunity fire one more than a couple of times. Most people buy a rifle like this for a specific ‘Trip of a Lifetime’. To fulfil a particular ambition or dream and then hang on to it for the memories and sentiment. They have every full intention of returning again but ‘life’ and reality somehow manage creep back in!
If you check the links this model is now superseded. However, many much prefer this older version. You will also see that for this money this offers a SUPERB RIFLE at an even more superb price.
The barrel is as designed and originally supplied. A full 23 5/8” (600mm) barrel, unthreaded and also plain. NO OPEN sights fitted. The action IS pre-drilled, ready to take scope mounts to accommodate a suitable scope. (I will likely have a half decent selection to choose from so please ask).
Stocks are ‘AA’ Graded and are supplied with Fine Hand Cut, 24TPI Chequering. A Rounded Rosewood Forend Tip and Double Screw Sling Studs front and back. The Nicely Contrasting Grained Stock has a pull at 13 ¾” (350mm) and overall finishes at a total length of 44 ¾” (1135mm) and a bare weight of 8Lbs 2oz (3.716Kg).
These rifles are designed and built on Match Grade Actions and Barrels and apparently group exceptionally well. Achieving results to match much lighter and easier calibre rifles a LOT easier to shoot. They also come with the Full Length Mauser style Extractor Claw with Controlled Feed and Positive extraction. So often insisted upon by Professional and / or Dangerous Game Hunters. The LAST thing you need is a reload problem!
Rock Island Auctions had a ‘baby’ .270 example in auction with a guide of between $1700 and $2750 that SOLD at $2300
