Description

LINSLEY BROTHERS 12G SIDE BY SIDE BOXLOCK EJECTOR.

CLASSIC 12g English Game Shooting Side by Side Boxlock Ejector Shotgun from Linsley Brothers, Leeds. SUPERB CONDITION THROUGHOUT.

Somewhat unusual these days, short, but FAST handling 25” (634mm) Barrels. Standard / Traditional 2 ½” (65mm) English  Game Chambers and Fixed Chokes at a tight ¼ restriction to the right and standard ¾ left. Churchill Style 1/8” (3mm) Rib with Makers Name just forward of the chambers and a Single Brass Front Sight Bead. They ring like proverbial Church Bells and are near as originally made. Proof details bores at .729 and that is as high as gauges will slide in. Walls are all in excess of 36,000 with the majority well over 40.

A LONG original 15” (382mm) Highly Decorative Stock with Strong Right Handed Cast. That said it seems to mount near perfect for me so slightly surprising. High Colour Contrast running right through to Black. Tear Drops to each face always suggest Quality as well as additional time and effort spent. It takes a lot more work to shape a stock with than without. Chequering is still all Very Clean and Well Defined and minimal blemishes anywhere. Overall the gun measures a compact 42” dead (1067mm) and tips scales at 6 Lbs 2 oz exactly (2.781 Kg).

A GREAT little gun to carry about ALL day long on a walk up. Superbly compact to be sat in a hide with and not get snagged up. No doubt equally handy of a formal driven day too.

Is this a Linsley homage to the classic Boss brand who favoured the same barrel length and is so often copied?

Bright Finished Action All Fully Hand Engraved. The matching decoration continuing on to Trigger Guard, Top Lever, Forend Release and even the Chambers.

As said, the gun is in REMARKABLE condition considering. A Truly Excellent example of a TOP QUALITY, reasonably local / Northern Made Gun from one of THE BEST Provincial makers. Still in Business today too.

I have a Linsley myself, the first shotgun I ever bought, though mine is actually sleeved. That snippet of information does not say a lot OTHER THAN they are good enough for me. With the choices available as a dealer for MANY years it might send a message to anyone wanting to listen.

THE STEEL SHOT DEBACLE?

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. IF it’s so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters, how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:
NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.                                                     RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
