Description

KONGSBERG 7.62 X 51 (NATO) M/59 F1 BOLT ACTION TARGET RIFLE.

SUPERB example. A sought after and collectable Model ‘M/59 F1’ Bolt Action Kongsberg Target Rifle in 7.62 x 51 Nato calibre.

Unfortunately the top wood and barrel band are missing. Probably removed to improve results (if even possible) and or weight. More likely just to look like a standard rifle format. Also absent are the original scope rings and scope though the mounting rail IS still in place.

Quite why rifles like this turn up with bits missing is beyond me. The likelihood is it all ends up ‘tucked away’ in a drawer. Left there for the ‘what if I ever need one’ attitude and ends up collecting dust for ever more. A shame but still a great, iconic and much sought after rifle.

At 48 7/8” overall and great condition inside and out it weighs in, as it stands, at 9lbs 13oz.  A dioptre sight has been fitted as well as scope bases. The action is pre-drilled to accommodate either. I may well have a suitable Parker Hale rear dioptre that would fit (at additional cost).

The barrel is a full 27 ½” and stock / trigger pull at 14”. It features the usual Kongsberg ‘ribbed grip’ to the stock.

HISTORY.

For those who don’t know these Scandinavian rifles were produced in Norway. Supplied and used by not only the Norwegian DFS but also as Sniper rifles for their Military Forces.

This rifle is No 46 from a total consignment of 855. They arrived in Great Britain in 1968 / 69. This the higher grade Laminated stock version. Original ‘civilian’ spec. rifle with only the bolt extractor claw  blued finish. (Military options had the entire bolt finished).

The stock is actually just about perfect condition. A front element holder cup still fitted to the bottom of the grip. Metal work does have a couple of VERY minor marks to the finish. Very possibly a previous owner with the initials DJM, as engraved to the magazine floor plate. Easily swapped out if need be.

As said, I will very likely have suitable front and rear Parker Hale target sights. Alternatively a scope can be fitted instead.

ANYONE ‘just happen to have’ some original side mounted rings and an original scope tucked away, collecting dust? DO PLEASE get in touch. It would be great to actually try the rifle out in its original format. Anyone DOES actually call and I will also be picking out 6 numbers as my luck will certainly ‘be in’!
A TRULY CLASSIC ‘old style’ Target / Sniper rifle and seriously hard pushed to find a better candidate!
