ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC, BEST OF BEST QUALITY .375 Holland and Holland Bolt Action Safari Rifle from J. Roberts and Son. Also, a small piece of Rifle Making History. THE ONE and ONLY GUN BUILT whilst Proudly Holding The Royal Warrant of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. SADLY, an Honour never to be bestowed upon anyone ever again now.

With this one it is very much a case of what to say? Perhaps I should simply type out the technical specifications and let the gun / images speak for themselves. Given the amount / length of the advert draft it would save a massive amount of time typing. However, to me, that just smacks of laziness. As well as A TOTAL lack of Appreciation and Respect. Not only for the Rifle itself but for EVERY single person involved in and with it to date.

Anyone familiar with me / my website will also KNOW that option is ‘just not me’!

I will start with the basics and a 22 7/8” (580mm) Barrel set to a Stock Trigger Pull of 14 1/8” (358mm). They combine to bring in an Overall Length of 44 ¼” (1125mm). Tipping Scales at a BARE Weight (WITH Scope Bases still fitted) of 9 Lb 6 ½ oz (4.268 Kg). WITH the 30mm Original H&H Quick Detachable Rings AND Kahles Scope in place try 10 Lb 14 ½ oz (4.945 Kg).

You are NOT going to find much of ANYTHING, from ANYWHERE, ANY FINER than this. It IS a Rifle HAND BUILT for a Bygone Age and Era. When people went to Africa or India etc. on Safari and Hunting Trips for months, even years. Then stayed for DECADES. There are, certainly. a LUCKY few that could still apply to. BUT they are as RARE an individual as this Rifle is.

Also, Hand Engraved by Ken Hunt. Widely regarded as Great Britain’s Greatest Gun Engraver EVER (so far). As such, another VERY Significant addition to a RARE piece of Masterful British Rifle making at its ABSOLUTE BEST. He too, now long retired as far as I am aware. As such, yet another feature impossible to replicate.

HIGHLY DECORATIVE Best Quality (English) Walnut Stock with a Strong Straight Grain through the Entire Length. Especially through the Grip. Excellent Pattern as well as Colour Contrast with Vertical Tiger Stripe Highlights along the Entire Length of BOTH Sides. A DEEP Hazle Nut Brown going all the way through to Black. Still Almost New Extra Fine 24 lines per Inch Hand Cut Checkering to all grip areas. Flush Inlet Double Screwed Rear Sling Point Stud to accompany the usual ‘Safari Rifle’ Barrel Band Forward Sling Point. A currently still unused Flush Inlet Oval Escutcheon to the bottom of the stock. All ready for YOUR Initials or even Family Crest.

The Rifle features Extensive Hand Cut Acanthus Foliate Scroll Engraving. Let’s start with the Concave Edge of the Pistol Grip Cap. That finished in Black to the Flat with ‘BY ROYAL APPOINTMENT ERII 1998 in Solid Gold. The Sprung Hinged Trap Door housing a second Front Sight Bead with Royal Crown and Regal Lion atop. Moving on we arrive to a TRUE Piece of ARTWORK on the Hinged Magazine Floor Plate and Trigger Housing. All the Engraving done in a ‘Reverse / Inverted’ – ‘In Relief’ pattern. As such the lower cut areas or base finished in Stippled Black Background. The original levels / Main Pattern with Bright / Polished finish. The Housing and Surround Fully Patterned to leave a Plain Window or Vignette to the middle. The Rifle Serial Number in Gold to the Trigger Guard. A similar small panel to the Magazine Floor Plate, again Gold detailed with ‘CAL .375 H&H’. Then, the Crowning Glory: A MAGNIFICENT GOLD SNARLING TIGERS HEAD / ‘MASK’ direct on, set withing a Plain Circle. As you might hope, the Cross Stock Recoil Bar Screws also with Matching Engraved Finish.

Returning the Rifle to upright reveals a Matching Fully Engraved / Decorated Black Finished Bolt Knob and Cocking Handle. The Original Finish still at 98% plus all over. A Colour Case-Hardened Low-Level Pivoting Side Safety. The Bolt Release Lever, Original Holland & Holland Style Quick Detachable Scope Mount Bases and Entire Action all matching. As do the 30mm Holland and Holland Style Quick Release Scope Rings.  Currently fitted with a Kahles CSX 1.5-6 x 42 matching Best Quality Rifle Scope. This has an Illuminated Reticle in the form of a 3-Way CENTRE DOT with CIRCLE Duplex. As in a Heavy line coming in from the 3,6 and 9 o’clock positions. Dropping to a Fine Wire between 3 and 6 as well as vertically up to 12. In the Centre is a Small Centre Circle. It’s this circle that illuminates.

Massive Rear Open / Iron ‘V’ Sight Block Silver Soldered in place with matching Front Bead Ramp and Holder. The rear with one Fixed Distance and a Second Flip Up / Down Leaf. The Calibre once again detailed to the top of this Sight Block with Matching Surrounding Engraved Decoration. The Front Block with a Stippled and Matt Blacked Finish to ensure Zero sunlight reflection. Fitted with a ‘Push Pin’ Style Front Shroud release. As in depress the sprung pin and slide the shroud on or off to suit shooting conditions.

Last, and by no means least, the Makers Name also Inlaid in Matching Solid Gold to the Barrel.

ANY guns like this are not simply just that. They ARE Absolute WORKS OF ART in EVERY Sense. The Skills and Levels of Best Quality Workmanship required Matches Anything, in Any Field. In many ways Working Firearms are even better for exactly that reason. They are made to be Used as well as Admired and Cherished. This is a Rifle to SHARE YOUR DREAMS with.
