ACTUALLY THE NUMBER 2 GUN OF A MATCHING PAIR / TRIO ETC.? It also has an Irish connection. The barrels stamped up with ‘Supplied by Helys Ltd.’ to the left and ‘Dame Street, Dublin’ on the right.
(The property still exists, apparently converted to a pub at some point so any information welcome).
As the model would suggest 25” (Actually 25 1/16 “ (636mm) barrels with Fixed Chokes at Improved Cylinder and Half. The gun in Beautiful condition throughout. A Concave ¼” (6mm) rib and the Side Locks are all signed, as expected, by the maker. Cogswell and Harrison Ltd. 168, Piccadilly, London.
The Bright Finished Action and Locks are beautifully finished with intricate Hand Cut Scroll Engravings. All with the same matching detail to the Blued Top lever, Trigger guard and Tang. A LONG pull length of 15 3/8” (391mm) includes the inch Rubber Recoil pad.
It IS a Very Nice, Highly Contrasting, Strong and Straight Grained Walnut Stock. The ‘Tear Drops’ detail is always a nice addition too, as is the Very Fine Hand Cut Chequering. Everything is still well defined and ‘half way’ sharp to the touch. It is impossible for the gun to have seen much use since new. Also with the gun is the original Hard Plastic Butt Plate. This would put the gun back to its original stock length of approx. 14 ½” (368mm). R/H cast and a SUPERB choice for the moors on Grouse or in the lowlands for Partridge and Pheasant. …… As well as anything else. True Traditional English Game Gun with 2 ½” (65mm) Chambers the gun tips the scales at 6 Lbs 14 ½ oz. Also comes with its original FULL Leather Hard Motor / Travel case.
The gun also came in with a works receipt from work carried out in July 2016. It details A Live test fire £55. Full Inspection Service and Clean £195. 2 New firing pins £150 the pair. Re-time the ejectors / action £85. New right hand swivel hand machined from bar stock £125.
All that gave a grand total of £655 spent on the gun. It saw daylight on approx. 8 occasions since, each time on 50 -100 bird days amongst 8 guns.
