12g Side by Side Top Lever Opening Hammer Shotgun from Charles Osborne & Co of London.
30” (762mm) fixed choke barrels. These can be taken at a tight ¼ and ¾ or a slack ½ and Full and are stamped for BP as well as Nitro to 1 1/8 oz load. Chambers will be standard English Game at the traditional 2 ½” (65mm). Barrel walls are also excellent. Generally 40,000 plus the minimum found is still 37 so more than enough for many years of good shooting still.
The lighter than might be expected colour to the stock could be a Maple Walnut. At a pull of 14 5/8” (372mm) it has some Really Nice figure with still well defined chequering. The snap on forend is nicely finished with an ornate inlayed horn (?) tip. The gun was originally finished with Colour Case Hardening as this is still in place to the top of the forend iron, below the barrels. Unfortunately that has all now gone to the Round Bodied Action, replaced with honest patination. The flats are stamped Made in England. The gun finishes at an overall length of 46 7/8” (1190mm) and a weight of 6 Lbs 15 oz (3.14 Kg).
