A VERY nice example of a Rather Classic True Drop Sidelock 12g Side by Side Shotgun from Charles Lancaster. Actually detailed as Patent Sidelock within the Engraving. Even the Forend is stamped with ‘T.P. Patent’. This is also the Number 1 gun of a pair (or more) which is detailed within approx. 1 ½” (40mm) of Matching Engraving to the beginning of the Lightly Tapering Concave Sighting Rib. This is also an ASSISTED OPENER so about as high a spec. gun as its possible to get. Bolstered Shoulders to ‘beef’ things up a little too.
ANYONE with Gun 2 and its almost your duty to re-unite them!
28 1/8” (715mm) Sleeved Barrels with chokes fixed at ……. and ……. . Standard English Game Chambers so Traditional 2 ½” (65mm). You REALLY DO NOT NEED anything bigger. If so how did ANYONE manage to shoot game before longer cartridges became the norm? Apart from anything else cartridges manufactured today have very likely 20% and more better performance than in the past.
New proof stamps after sleeving detail the bores at .729. The next size plug gauge up at .734 will not go past the chambers. At 14” in (the main measuring point for walls both barrels are a minimum of 30,000. As such a LOT of shooting left in this gun. Right Hand Cast but not much at all. Especially to the top of the stock.
Considering an Assisted Opening gun this is also somewhat unusual in that the Forend simply Clips on to its spring loaded latch. The Action finished with Profuse Hand Cut Engraving throughout. A Highly Decorative 14 5/8” Original Long Stock with Chequering still well defined and clean. Overall the gun measures to 45 ½” (1155mm) and tips scales in at 6 lbs 9 oz (2.980 Kg).
As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:
THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. IF its so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:

NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons. RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
