F.N. Browning 12G ‘Auto 5’ semi-automatic shotgun (with an interesting serial number)!
Following this link puts this gun to a 1939 production but as such it should not be stamped up as an ‘FN’ model. The ‘cut off’ figure of approx. 228000 is only 1 away from this guns serial number so certainly a quirk that will appeal to someone!

Yet again, anyone with ACCURATE information by all means please drop it over.
This gun comes with a longer than usual barrel at 29 ½” (750mm) with a fixed ½ choke. It has no sight rib, just the front bead and offers a standard 2 ¾” (70mm) chamber. All in all the gun is in VERY clean condition all over, inside and out and finishes up at an overall length of 49” (1245mm) and 7Lbs 13 ½ oz (3.56Kg). The 14 5/8” (372mm) stock has a rounded prince of Wales grip and all chequering is still crisp. There is one small ‘ding’ to the left hand side of the chequered grip area but this may well lift and or be a lot less obvious if re cut a little. (I might well do this if time allows). Other than that there are a few light marks but nothing to what there could be on an older gun. This is in excellent condition all things considered.

The Browning Auto 5 was the first reliable semi-automatic production shotguns ever created and forms the basis of every other semi-auto shotgun since. Take one apart and you start to understand just how clever this Browning fella was. The design and construction is simply phenomenal with examples approaching 100 years and older still function flawlessly. It makes me wonder how well a modern counterpart would measure up after that long!
