QUITE AN INTERESTING GUN. Engraved with the following detail the Tapering Concave Rib:
ALEX B. HENRY & Co. 18 FREDERICK STREET, EDINBURGH IN CO-OPERATION WITH ALEX MARTIN OF GLASGOW. ‘THE CALEDONIA’
It WILL, no doubt / HOPEFULLY spark some serious interest from someone with connection to either Great City.
30” (761mm) barrels with chokes fixed at approx. Cyl. and ½. Wall thickness is well above recommended minimum limits. The lowest reading anywhere is 27ooo. At the critical 14” position it increases to a healthy 31 plus. There is still a life time’s shooting in the gun for all but the busiest of shots. The right handed stock has a 14 ¼” (362mm) pull and Very Well Figured. It shows a Strong Straight Grain with some Excellent Dark Contrasting Stripes. Chequering is still well defined too. Somewhat unusual for a UK / ‘English’ gun the action has removeable striker disc plates to the face. This MUST be a relatively rare feature on a gun of this era too.
Overall the gun finishes at 46 ¼” (1174mm) long and weighs in at 6 Lbs 9 oz. (2.982 Kg).
The plain ‘Bright’ finished action is now showing ‘honest’ patination all round. The original blued finish to the bottom plate and trigger guard ARE still in excellent condition. As such, it cannot have seen that much use so far.
All in this IS quite a nice gun. Not expensive for what it is and certainly a VERY nice piece of Scottish gun making history.
