Description

REMINGTON MODEL 11 (A5) 16G SEMI AUTO SHOTGUN.

Model 11 Remington 16g Semi-automatic shotgun. These guns are based directly on a Browning A5 and produced by Remington between 1940 and 1946 under licence from Browning. That said the serial number does not appear to tally with details on the internet so anyone with ACCURATE information by all means drop it over. The barrel is stamped at Full choke and is 28” (710mm) with a 2 ¾” (70mm) chamber. It is fully stamped up with the following:

REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION. N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A.

BROWNING’S U.S. PATS 689-283-710-094-730-870-812.326

Overall the gun comes in at 7Lbs 1 ½ oz (3.219Kg) and 47 ¼” (1200mm) long. The length of pull is currently back to it’s original spec. at 14 ¼” but has been reduced down to 11 5/8” (295mm) at some point. This was presumably for a youngster, petit lady or even just a small fella to use more comfortably. The extension bringing it back to original has been well executed and all of the woodwork refinished to a decent standard too.

Certainly a far from common item in any calibre let alone a 16g as well as an opportunity to own a small piece of gun history bridging both of these iconic firearms companies.

The Browning Auto 5 was the first reliable semi-automatic production shotguns ever created and forms the basis of every other semi-auto shotgun since. Take one apart and you start to understand just how clever this Browning fella was. The design and construction is simply phenomenal with examples approaching 100 years and older still function flawlessly. It makes me wonder how well a modern counterpart would measure up after that long!

THE STEEL SHOT DEBACLE?

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. APPARENTLY so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters? How is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:
NOW, TRY and help speed up availability. I WILL suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ask whoever we buy from WHY they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through, but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.                                                     RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
