Description
BROWNING REAL TREE MAX 5 MAXUS 12G SEMI-AUTOMATIC SHOTGUN.
ALMOST BRAND-NEW Maxus Real Tree Max 5 Semi-Automatic Shotgun from Browning. Bought circa 12 months ago, specifically to go Shoreline Wild Fowling with. Sadly, the ‘bug’ just did not bite. Too much like hard work. Or too much walking. Maybe too bad a day for weather / the cold. Possibly too mucky. OR simply ‘another off the bucket list’. WHO KNOWS? All I know is this now offers up a BARGAIN for anyone looking for one of these Great Shotguns. Apparently less than a box of 25 through it and back into the cabinet until it came here by way of P/X.
Looking at the 2025 catalogue, the MAX 5 Real Tree Camo Pattern IS still an option for this year too.
It looks very like what used to be called Grass Land so Reeds and Long Grasses Pattern. 30″ (760mm) Multi-Choke Barrel set to a current Stock / Trigger Pull length of 15″ (380mm). Overall, the gun measures 51 5/8″ as pictured and tips scales at 7lb 9 oz (3.429 Kg). This comes COMPLETE with its original Hard Case, All paperwork, Full Complement of Interchangeable Browning Invector PLUS chokes. The 1/4 – Imp Cylinder (?) is also an extended option so adds circa 2″ (50mm) to the barrel. Specially for those EXTRA HIGH birds. All other Stock Adjustment Spacers etc. still in its box too.
ALSO DON’T FORGET: These guns (new) now carry a 10-YEAR WARRANTY TOO. THAT is how much faith the manufacturer has in their product.
Barrel stamped up for standard 2 3/4″ (70mm) along with 3″ (75mm) Magnums AND 3 1/2″ (89mm) SUPER Magnum Cartridges. Steel Proof too, so good for literally anything. I dare say heavy load 2/1/2″ (65mm) may well cycle as well! Raised and Ventilated 1/4″ (6mm) Sight Rib with a Single High Vis Red Front Bead. A Bright but Matt Finished Action Housing and not sure if it is actually Stainless. The Bolt Slide and the Patented SPEED LOADING Magazine in the same. Sling Swivel Points fitted as standard to make carrying as easy an option as possible. Also frees up hands for carrying kit like decoys and a hide etc. Especially when using this for what it is MADE for. That said, it’s a gun equally at home battering clay as well as actual live pigeons and anything else.
If you want confirmation of just how little use the first clue is check out the trigger. The Gold Wash finish is, as per the description, AS NEW. It never takes much for this to show signs of wear. In fact, I have an actually Brand New 28G Over and Under on the shelf. That has never been out of the shop and the trigger shows more wear! If you call in for this, I will happily show you that, assuming it’s still here.
This is a gun still well capable of seeing even the youngest shots entire shooting career all the way to its end. Then still be good to pass on.
Given the 2025 RRP for this year is £1679, this offers up a SAVING of WELL OVER 30%. …… JUST because someone fired it first! IF you want an ACTUAL Brand-New gun, I can also get one of those, no problem. However, a ‘today’s’ gun WOULD be at ‘today’s’ price so your choice.
£1099.99
As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:
FIRST THING: Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmaker’s for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. IF its so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:

NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons. RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
