Description

MAUSER 12G OVER AND UNDER SHOTGUN.

NEVER many to be found Over and Under 12g Shotgun from the best known German Gunmaker, Mauser. ALWAYS exceptionally well made with a Well-Deserved World Wide Reputation.

28 ¼” (720mm) 2 ¾” (70mm) Fixed Choke Barrels set up for tight, long range patterns with Full and Extra Full restrictions. All that means is you should get every pellet inside a 30” circle at 30 yards. Full cylinder / wide open is still supposed to put 80 to 85%. Given there are circa 240 No 6 pellets in an ounce load that equates to between 36 and 48 pellets outside that 30” circle. However, its NOT like they take off at 90 degrees as soon as they leave the muzzle. What it does mean is they will be in the same but slightly bigger diameter circle at the same 30 yard distance. If you are ON TARGET its REALLY not going to make much difference. If your not on target the choke is totally irrelevant. It’s a miss regardless!

The rib is a standard ¼” (6mm) with a single Brass Front Sighting Bead.

ALSO, BEFORE you start to ask ‘what about steel’ PLEASE DO NOT fall into this ‘trap’. Cartridge manufacturers WILL come up with an effective and price conscious alternative. It is actually ‘out there’ already. If not it means every single shotgun not proof tested and suitable for steel becomes obsolete. ITS SIMPLY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Undoubtedly prices for cartridges WILL continue to go up as it’s a beautiful excuse for them to do so. Much the same as everything else after Brexit and Covid. Live with it. Shooting is NOT an inexpensive pastime. Also ask yourself genuinely just how many shots do you take per year. Even if it doubles will it cost THAT much more? If you answer yes then you obviously have a fair amount of shooting so CAN afford the additional costs involved.

RANT OVER!

Back to the gun:

Stock pull measures to approx. 14 ¼” (363mm) bringing in an overall length of 45 ¾” and weighs in at 7 Lbs 3 oz (3.252). As such not a particularly heavy gun for an Over and Under. Action is Bright with contrasting Black finish to its ‘borders’. Forend Iron, Trigger Guard and even the Forend Catch are matching Silver and Black contrast. It’s also an Immensely Strong Design and Construction. Not only a Double Action Lock Up Lugs at the Bottom but an Additional Pair Across the Top. 4 in total. Externally Profusely Engraved everywhere, completely surrounding the Plain Oval with Mauser brand name inside to each side. Double Scallop Back too. Even the screws are Traditional Mauser ‘double up’ Build quality. The main screw held in place with a smaller locating / retaining position counterpart as found on their original rifles etc.

Pistol Grip Strong Straight Grain Stock with Fine Cut Chequering circa 24 line per inch and still very clean / crisp. This is not particularly well cast for right so may well work in either hand. None automatic Manual Safety and also features Sling Points. The front a permanent fixture, soldered to the lower barrel. A very common feature on mainland European shotguns. Also VERY handy for anyone doing a lot of walking / rough terrain to get where you want to be. Makes carrying it a LOT easier. This is a CHEAP gun for what it is and where it is from.

THE LEAD SHOT DEBACLE?:

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. IF it’s so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters, how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:
NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.                                                     RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
