.405 Calibre Winchester Model 1895 Under Lever Rifle in STUNNING condition given this dates to 1997 production.
A SERIOUSLY RARE little ‘BEASTY’ TOO and Yet Another SERIOUS SLEEPER I Love to discover and make available. 100% a Serious Collectors Piece….TRY and find another. Almost 100% as near Brand New as realistically matters for something that is actually not. Especially given over 25 years old.
23 ¾” (605mm) Barrel with a Stock Pull Length of 13 3/8” (340mm). Overall spec. finishes the rifle at 42 5/8” (1082mm) and weighs in at 8 Lbs 2 oz (3.68 Kg).
Barrel Fully detailed with WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, C.T. USA JAPAN MIROKU to the right side. .405 WIN. CAL. to the top. SPECIAL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER NP with LP09 to the left. One VERY small mark to the original finish to the left hand lower rear area of the forend. Other than that near perfect.
Original mid barrel Rear ‘V’ Open Sight now removed and finished with a curved insert to match the barrel. Quite a nice job. That sight now replaced with a Micro-Adjustable Side of Action Mounted Long Range Dioptre / Peep Sight. Windage Adjustable with Elevation Scales ranging from 100 through to 1200 yards. There is even more unmarked adjustment to go to even greater range!
Integral Vertical Stack TOP Loading 4 Round Magazine. As such, NO, you can NOT easily mount a scope unless it is high enough to allow loading. Or off set to one side. That said this is not really a rifle designed to accommodate one. My suggestion is to simply USE and ENJOY it as it IS and was always meant to be.
It was apparently one of President Roosevelt’s favourites. He is noted for passing the following comment (as detailed on the re-production wooden ammo box included): “The Winchester .405 is, at least for me, THE MEDICINE GUN”.
Included with the rifle is a RCBS 3 Die Reloading Set along with 54 once fired Kynoch Brass Cases. Dies appear unused. The previous owner had intended to but never managed to get around to it. He originally purchased 60 rounds and apparently gave 6 cases away to collectors.
