Box Lock, Double Trigger Ejector 12g Side by Side Shotgun from Thomas Turner & Sons Ltd. A nice easy serial number to remember too (3456).
28” (710mm) Standard ‘English Game’ 2 ½” (65mm) Chambers with ¼ and ¾ Fixed Chokes. Quite how anyone ever managed to shoot anything with such ‘pathetic’ cartridges is anyone guess. SOMEHOW though, they DID. I STILL DO!
A Long 15 1/8” (384mm) Trigger Pull Stock combining to bring in an Overall length of 44 7/8” (1140mm). Scales register a carry weight at 6 lb 7 oz (2.917 Kg).
Simple answer: Just use a suitable alternative. Plenty of options already with more appearing regularly. Yes, they may well cost a few quid per thousand more but how many are you shooting each season? If it’s into the 10’s of thousands, you CAN WELL AFFORD to pay whatever. If it’s a slab or two of 250 it’s an extra £200 or ess for your ENTIRE years shooting. It IS also a HUGE SAVING. Especially given the costs of changing things out for a replacement new or even pre-used steel approved O/U. THEN having to learn to shoot all over again with a gun brand new to you.
TO ME it makes little to zero sense at all. BUT, I appreciate, that COULD just be Me!
As with many of my adverts for shotguns these days: If lead is SO Sodding dangerous can ANYONE ANSWER ME THIS: WHY are all the old lead water mains to well over 60% of the population not getting replaced as a HUGE matter of concern and urgency? The only REAL answer I can come up with is Wildlife matters and the human population doesn’t. That is where LOGIC takes you. Call me sceptical but I suspect it’s more political where guns are concerned. Also, it’s a WONDERFUL way to get those who still shoot to spend money on kit they do not really want or need.
ANYONE OUT THERE WILLING TO ‘DISCUSS’ by all means get in touch. Let’s all have an HONEST, PUBLIC DEBATE. LIVE ON PRIME TIME TV!
Anyway, Rant over, (ESPECIALLY given no one will take up the challenge) let’s get back to this rather delightful little gun.
A Fiddle Back Action all Fully Hand Engraved with Scroll and Floral Bouquet Pattern. The Bottom Plate finished in Traditional Gun Blue / Black along with the Trigger Guard etc. All with matching Engraving. There is also a still unused Flush Inset Oval Escutcheon to the bottom of the stock.
A HIGHLY Decorative and Well Figured Long Stock. Even taking account of the 1 1/8” (28mm) Red Recoil Pad and Double Black Spacer). EXCELLENT Grain Pattern and Contrast to this Rich and Deep, Dark High-Grade Walnut. Chequering is still Very Clean too. I cannot say SHARPE but its not far away and still Very well defined. Certainly, a GOOD clue as to the use this has seen to date. A Very Pretty BEST as well as CLASSIC High Quality English Game Gun.
A .735 Bore Plug will not pass chambers and at 14” in (Max Pressure) walls measure a Minimum of 32,000. Lowest anywhere past there is 28 thou. As such a LOT of GREAT shooting left in this GOOD-LOOKING Gun.
