.303 British Short Magazine Lee Enfield SMLE Bolt Action Military Service Rifle WITH detail of a FACTORY REBUILD from 1947 (FR 47). As such MORE than likely this actually saw service through both World Wars and came back for a FULL Factory Repair / Re-build shortly afterwards.
As such this a fine and very late example of an original No1 Mk III* Enfield with all corresponding stamps to the Action Band. ALSO to bear in mind is the fact that by then the No4 Enfield’s were several years into production. As such this must have been considered WELL worth refurbishing at the time.
25 ¼” (640mm) Barrel set to a Stock / Trigger pull length of 13” (330mm). Overall the rifle measures 44 1/8” (1120mm) and weighs in at a Solid 9 Lbs 2 oz (4.145 Kg). (THINK about that next time you are out for a couple of hours with your sporting set up and complaining its heavy)!
The usual Hinged Brass Door to the Brass Butt Plate. Opening to a small storage hole for oil bottle and pull through etc. I will have a bottle if required so do remember to ask.
I have pulled the clip on top hand guard woodwork to check below but no further. NO reason to suspect the rest of the metal work is any different to this section. If the same then the original Black ‘Parkerised’ finish is as close to Brand New as could possibly be hoped for. The rest readily on show is all but the same condition other than the mildest sign. The Bore appears to be in exactly the same SUPERB condition. Its actually even cleaner inside than out. THAT feature alone makes an exceptional change to the usual.
Original Open / Iron / Battle Sights Graduated from 200 to 2000 yards. All Matching Dark finished Woodwork with a VERY Tight and Strong Straight Grain patterned Stock. I CAN imagine this will make someone a Fine example to Collect and Cherish BUT ALSO actually USE and Shoot. WHY NOT?
These rifles / this calibre will very possibly account for more game World Wide than every other combined. (Taking account of two legged as well as four). As such NO reason it cannot be used on game here or anywhere else too. Help keep that history and record intact.
