A Wonderfully Deep, Dark, Rich High Grade Traditional English Walnut Stock. Heavy and Tightly Packed Cross Grain Tiger Stripe Highlights to Both Sides. Running right through the Right Hand Raised Cheek Rest. Checkering is still Very Well Defined too. No, not ‘sharp’ but only just so. Original Browned Finish to the Bolt Shaft, still in circa 90+% as new condition. The Full-length Mauser 98 Extractor Claw Colour Case Hardened Blued finish to match the Bolt Release catch. Again, still well in excess of 90% original finish and condition.
Flush inlet double screw sling stud point to the butt which also features a currently used Oval Escutcheon. If your initials are PNW and you are looking at this, basically the rifle is ‘calling you’!
In conclusion, a ‘Best Quality’ Traditional and Original English Sporting Rifle from one of the Worlds most renowned makers. Always HIGHLY Sought after and in one of THE BEST performing and easily accessible calibres ever invented. The .270 Winchester manages to DUMP energy when it strikes. Anything within the UK tends to take no more than a couple of steps with even a reasonably accurate shot. To this day I fail to see quite HOW the calibre fell ‘out of fashion’. At one time it was the ‘go to’ for Deer Stalking of any and all species.
As many of my adverts for rifles in this calibre do detail though:
It DOES have just about unmatched knock down power, certainly compared with any and all other none Magnum option. The downside was always NOISE as well as recoil. With a poorly designed stock a .270 could rattle anyone’s teeth. Often give their owner a bruised, if not bloodied eye! However, these days ANYONE can now have a sound moderator fitted. (NOT that I would BUTCHER a rifle like this). However, to each their own. When its paid for it’s yours to do what you will with. The ‘beauty’ of ‘updating’ with a sound mod is the noise drops to well within acceptable limits. Even without ear protection. Also, at the same time, recoil disappears to the degree a 6 stone child can happily squeeze the trigger.
Yes, a couple of Very Light signs of ANY wear to date to the metalwork. The same detailed for the stock. However, given this dates to production in 19 – – I consider it Well Past Remarkable. I wish I still looked this good when I made 40, let alone now!
