Bolt Action Remington 700 BDL Deluxe in the ever popular calibre of .223 Remington.
Finished in a high gloss varnish this is the companies top of the range option. Skip / fox cut chequering, Rosewood tips to the grip and forend and a ‘scrolling leaf pattern’ engraving to the action etc. The trigger guard and hinged magazine floor plate have matching decoration with a ‘trophy’ Rams head too.
It never takes much or long for these rifles to show up with small areas of damage. Even the toughest Polyurethane varnish never really stands up that well. Personally I much prefer a more traditional oil finish. A little more maintenance but easy enough and far harder wearing. That said this IS in pretty clean condition inside and out.
There are a couple of indents from a bi-pod. That has either been tightened on with an 18” length of scaffold pole for extra purchase (slight exaggeration). Or more likely whoever was using it was trying to close the legs up the wrong way and were a bit ‘ham fisted’. It’s NOT that bad and will more than likely lift out completely. But it is there and worth a mention in the interests of accuracy. Apart from a couple of other very minor marks it’s pretty obvious the rifle has not been used that much.
Overall length is 43 ¾” with a full length 24” Barrel, threaded ½” x 20 UNF. Length of pull is 13 ¾” and the rifle weighs in at a bare 7lbs 4oz.
An ever popular and classic American rifle that are the base for so many hand builds these days and in the most popular .22 centre fire cartridge world-wide.
