This came in and is on the National Firearms database as a Parker Hale but, IN REALITY, its NOT. As above, it IS a genuine and fully stamped / detailed Original Parker Hale Barrel. It is also in an Original Parker Hale Stock. However, both are fitted to an Original Mauser 98 Military Action. That all said, the previous owner assures me its one of the most accurate rifles in this calibre he ever owned. (There is a bit of a story attached but too long to type out).
First contact with the gun for me was when it was brought in to try and work some ‘magic’ on the trigger. When it arrived, it was pretty obvious it was not a ‘True’ Parker Hale. Serial number plus Traditional Mauser Pivoting Flag Safety to the back of the bolt raised immediate suspicion. Removing the stock simply confirmed as the original Military and incredibly basic trigger came into view. I then supplied and fitted an Original Parker Hale Fully Adjustable and Side Position Safety Trigger unit. Apparently improving the already good accuracy.
Since then, someone has also fitted an even bigger safety lever for even more positive contact and use. Along with the Action and Barrel Bedding out to the third Main Stock Screw position along the For-end.
If you have deep enough pockets and / or the desire to spend more I have MANY other rifles in stock to choose from. Trying to keep things within extremely sensible budgets and this WILL tick all requirements. In the end its completely down to you.
23 5/8” (600mm) Fixed, Open / Iron Sighted Barrel. Stock / Trigger Pull measures to a 14 3/8” (365mm) and brings in a combined Overall length of 45 1/8” (1145mm). Scales register a bare weight as pictured of 8 Lb 15 oz (4.049 Kg).
Metal work finish appears to be original Parkerised Matt too, as opposed to earlier and more Traditional Gloss Gun Blued.
A Strong and Straight Grained possibly Maple Walnut Stock. Dense Growth Lines with a hint of Tiger Stripe Cross Grain Pattern to the Raised Cheek Rest. Double Recoil Cross Studs to strengthen it against the recoil and an Original Parker Hale branded 1” (25mm) Recoil pad. Rosewood For-end tip and what looks to be a Black Plastic Grip cap. Hinged Magazine Floor Plate so impossible to lose as well as usually noisy IF accidentally opened. Last thing you want or need is an empty or even no detachable magazine if a follow up shot is needed! The other GOOD thing being the Original FULL sized Mauser Extractor so preferred on heavy calibre rifles.
