MERKEL 12G SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN.
Made in Germany 12g Boxlock Ejector Side by Side Shotgun from their BEST known manufacturer Merkel.
28” (710mm) barrels with 2 ¾” (70mm) and fixed chokes. A loose half and tight full left and right respectively. Walls measure up to 30,000” plus with bores near exactly as original proof marks. As such basically very little use since brand new. Tapering Concave Sight Rib with a Single Brass Bead to the muzzle.
A decent amount of right hand cast to the 14 ½” (363mm) with a Strong Straight Grained and some reasonable Colour Contrast.
Original Case Hardening is still circa 80% to each side of the action but the bottom is all but gone. Obviously carried about and held just there whilst doing so.
Scales register a lightweight 6 Lbs 5 ½ oz (2.875 Kg) so easy enough to take with you even on a long walked up day. Overall measurement comes in at 44 ½” (1130mm).
As detailed, this is a gun from Merkel, Germany’s best known manufacturer. A company with a WELL deserved reputation for Design and Build Quality of the highest calibre. Check out what a shotgun would cost you brand new today and that will give you an idea. I have not had the stock off this but no reason to suspect anything different. Usually even the parts are individually numbered to match the gun. Generally ‘glorious’ to look at too as each piece hand finished and even polished. Yes, this is an older example but still a superbly made gun and offers a huge saving against new.

THE LEAD SHOT DEBACLE?:
FIRST THING: Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. IF it’s so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters, how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
