.375 H&H, Holland and Holland Magnum Bolt Action Mauser MO3 Africa Rifle. Just about As New, Like SO MANY BIG calibre rifles tend to be. Certainly here in the UK at least. Generally purchased to help fulfil a ‘Bucket List’ / dream of a Big Game Safari and once done tucked away. Brought out and looked at for the memories, nostalgia and MAYBE an odd trip to the shooting range.
I remember well when these rifles were first launched and presented to the public. It was my first and only trip to the BIG IWA Trade Fare in Nuremburg, Germany. From ALL of the various Multi-Barrel Rifles before and since these ARE still, BY FAR, THE BEST. Just my own personal opinion and you can agree or don’t. However, the Design, Build and Ease of Use along with other features, not least versatility are yet to be bettered.
It’s easily possible to go from shooting a small .22 Centre Fire calibre to this or any other ‘BIG Bore’. When I had stock I COULD do a complete swap out in under 60 seconds! That was one Scope off, Barrel detached, Bolt and Magazine Out. Bolt Face Swapped. New Calibre Barrel back into the stock. LOADED Magazine in place. Bolt slid back in. Calibre compatible Scope in QD RETURN to Zero Mount fitted.
The ONLY thing left was to push the Rear of Bolt positioned Safety into the FIRE position. Doing so actually Cocks the bolt. A FANTASTIC SAFETY Feature as this is what tensions the Firing Pin and Spring. Up until you engage FIRE the rifle CANNOT discharge. Regardless if dropped, squashed, kicked or even squeeze the trigger.
Barrel measures to 25 9/16” (650mm). The Highly Decorative Quality Walnut Stock offers a Trigger Pull at 14 ½” (370mm). A Strong Straight Grain with some Good Colour Contrast. Rosewood Forend and Grip Cap with Grip areas finished with Fine Line Hand Cut Chequering. An easy enough task to add spacer piece/s if needed too. Overall the rifle finishes at a straight 46” (1170mm) and Tips Scales Bare, as images, at 8 Lbs 4 oz. (3.738 Kg).
As detailed these rifles feature Detachable Magazines. This being in .375 Calibre the barrel comes fitted with Adjustable Open / Iron Sights. The Rear with Windage Screws to Each Side and Front with Elevation.
One small ‘ding’ just behind the rear sling stud position and that’s it! Nothing else to detail or mention on condition. As already said, this is all but BRAND NEW. Even the ammunition follower in the magazine shows hardly a mark. I would be majorly surprised if this has actually seen more than a single box of ammunition.
IF preferred I would consider swapping out. However the action length will require checking.
Any of the scopes being an EXCELLENT choice for a rifle like this. One would only enhance the other for a lifetimes enjoyment. ALL AMONGST THE BEST OF BEST QUALITY AVAILABLE as they have been and WILL ALWAYS REMAIN. Hopefully you have other guns that WOULD benefit from one!
