Classic Mauser Model 66 Sliding Bolt Action Rifle in the fast reviving and increasing in popularity calibre of .270.
23 5/8” (600mm) Open Sighted and original un-threaded Barrel. 14 ¼” (362mm) Decorative Walnut Stock with Raised Cheek Piece. Overall the gun finishes at a straight and compact 41” (1040). Scope removed it tips scales at 7 Lbs ¾ oz (3.195 Kg). With the scope in place gives a total of 8 Lbs 4 ½ oz (3.760 Kg).
The scope itself is a TOP of the range at the time Zeiss Diavari 1.5-6 x 42 and STILL as good as anything available. Simple 4 way wire reticle that increases with the magnification so FFL / First Focal Plain. Very probably still WAY better than anything in the same category to be found brand new today.
People say they dont like this type of action. They read BAD information on line that says you hit your face as you bring the bolt back to load a second round! RUBBISH.
Ive yet to see anyone keep their face THAT tight against the stock as they load a second round. Especially when you are busy watching the results of the bullet strike on whatever has been shot (as you should). Unless, of course, its paper, in which case you can easily lift your head to re-load. TRY USING your OWN brain people.
These were, in effect, the first production inter changeable barrel rifles available and handle amazingly well. Compact, accurate and superbly engineered as all MAUSER Mauser rifles are this still retains good colour to the action and barrel.
Double set adjustable trigger to finish things off. Personally I like these guns but agree you either do or dont. They ARE in the ‘Marmite’ club.
