The 23” (585mm) barrel being about the only thing showing anything much by way of wear. That is only to the last 6” (150mm) or so from the muzzle and only to the external finish. A rifle obviously carried muzzle down and held steady by the muzzle area in the shooters hand. Just as I tend do especially for lowland / woodland stalking.
Pull is at 14 ½” (368mm) to the Strong Straight Grained Stock. This does have some Fine Darker Contrasting Stripes and features a Raised Cheek Piece. Also typical Rigby ‘wrap around’ Extra Fine Hand Cut Chequering.
The rifle finishes at 44 ¾” (1135mm) overall and tips scales at a half ounce over 8 Lbs (3.644 Kg). That INCLUDES the Matching Engraved WINDAGE ADJUSTABLE Swing off Scope bases. Inch rings available and I MAY even have 30mm if required.
Barrel Fully and Correctly detailed with J. RIGBY. 13 PALL MALL, LONDON. SW 1 in Gothic Script. Calibre is also detailed in Gold inlay to the magazine floor plate. Along with J. Rigby & Co London again to the left side oof the action.
A Very Nicely finished Bolt knob with 5 matching areas of hand cut chequering finished with a Flowers Head Crown. Side position Safety.
Looking at the original blacking finish the bolt shaft the rifle has seen little real use. YES, obviously it has been taken out and has been carried muzzle down. Quite evident as detailed above. However the rest of the rifle also testifies to not a great deal of actual work. Everything finished off with a Traditional Buffalo Horn Pistol Grip Cap and Forend Tip.
There ARE a few light marks to the stock. These are mainly confined to the very bottom of the butt. The worst of which appears to have been inflicted by an early Rifle Sling.
Other that those blemishes detailed a FINE Example of a RARE and much sought after Rifle. Especially from one the World’s’ Most Iconic and Best Loved makers.
