David Lloyd, Pipewell, England, CLASSIC English Sporting Bolt Action Rifle in .25-06. A calibre I shot myself for many years and MORE than happy with the results. PLEASE do not believe the rubbish out there about barrel life. Mine did a LOT of work and went on doing the same for many years after parting. Be sensible, as with ANY full-bore rifle. Then, there is absolutely no reason at all why it won’t last exactly the same. It’s very similar to firing a .243 for recoil but with a .270 necked down case for energy. Bullet weights also go that bit heavier to 120gr. Extremely effective at usual ranges but still with plenty of ‘bump’ way past.
Little out there in the Deer world that will not succumb to this if hit in the right place. Absolutely Fantastic choice for Longer Range / Open Hill Stalking. 100% EXACTLY what Lloyd Rifles were originally designed to do. Plenty of readily available information online already about the gun history and the man. As such, little point just re-iterating it all over again here. THIS is about an ACTUAL RIFLE.
Suffice to say that for many years he would only produce Magnum Calibre rifles. Specifically designed for that sole purpose, with as close to absolute guaranteed performance as it’s possible to offer. This is from the later years of production when he ‘relented’ and finally began supplying some none magnum rifles.
Barrel measures a relatively long 22 1/4″ (565mm). Stock / Trigger pull of 14″ (355mm), bringing in an overall length of 43 1/2″ (1105mm). Scales register a TOTAL weight (as pictured WITH Scope and Mounts) of 8 Lb 7 ¼ oz (3.832 Kg).
An EXCEPTIONALLY BONNY BEST Quality Walnut Stock. Absolutely True Classic English Stalking Rifle Design, Specification and Format. Excellent Grain Pattern, Nice Strong and Straight through the grip. Highly Decorative with Extensive Colour Contrast throughout. As always, finished with Extra Fine Hand Cut Chequering and Raised Cheek Rest. Finished with an inch (25mm) Recoil Pad to the rear. Then Buffalo Horn For-end tip and Pistol Grip Cap. The usual, and VERY distinctive Lloyd Swept Back and Angled Bolt Handle. Tucked Extremely well alongside the stock to offer up as Sleek a Profile from every angle as possible. The Bolt as well as Full Length Mauser Claw Extractor with Jeweled / Engine Turned finish. The same for the bolt release lever too. Then, a Fully Adjustable Trigger to complete the spec.
Bright finished Hinged Alluminium Magazine Floor Plate and Trigger Guard so there is zero chance of losing it.
The Scope is, as usual, a Fixed 4X Power Swarovski Habicht Tirol. This with a 3-way Standard Duplex Reticle. For those of you out there who THINK you need anything else: I WILL simply suggest you start to learn some field craft. If you are incapable of getting close enough to be comfortable with this then you’re simply TOO FAR AWAY.
As detailed above, this is an unusual calibre from Lloyd. It’s not the first through my hands but I strongly suspect a more than fair chance it’s the last. As such, once it goes it’s likely too late so DO NOT miss your chance!
