I DID previously sell this rifle a few years ago. On the understanding they would give me first refusal if EVER they decided to sell. THANKFULLY he was good to his word, turning up with a small collection including this. Two of which were almost as equally collectable examples of Vintage BRNO rifles. One has already sold with another still to list. He decided to part with everything and have his ‘dream’ rifle made from scratch so needed funds.
In the meantime, he had done a lot of research on older BRNO rifles. According to his information there are only a handful of Model 21H Rifles even known to exist across Europe. I will state I can neither confirm nor contradict that as FACT. I WILL, however, state wholeheartedly it IS VERY LIKELY TRUE. Even more so now as it’s been another 9 years since he bought it. When this was manufactured it also saw the introduction of the Swept Down, Chiselled Pattern Thin Bolt Handle. Not only aesthetically pleasing (looking GREAT) feature but also to allow a lower scope mounting than previous rifles.
Another rifle from my ‘SLEEPER CUPBOARD COLLECTION’ this is just a TRUE CLASSIC. Stamped up as follows: ZBROJOVKA BRNO, NARODNI PODNIK to the L/H of the action with the 1949 date stamp. A rather ‘nice touch’, (showing perhaps just how much pride the company had in those days). There is a small banner with NOT ENGLISH MADE stamped inside! However, apparently not at the manufacturer’s instigation. Rather both English Proof Houses who apparently insisted on it for a short period in time. No idea why but, no doubt, someone WILL. Please do drop a line or two if you have the accurate information. Also stamped up 7×57 (.275) …. As they ALL SHOULD BE in this great calibre!
The ONLY points to raise are the front sight blade cover / shroud would appear to be missing. BUT, that said, there are no grooves, normally there, that a cover would slide into. As such there may never have been one. Also, a small chip to the heel which has a very neat repair. I WILL challenge you to find a better example in an original rifle that is 67 years old. (NOW 76 given the 9 years it’s been away and then awaiting re-advertising)!
I hope I ware as well (not a hope in hell) !
The rifle DOES just OOZE of an era where QUALITY reigned. It was also originally fitted with its factory supplied Zeiss fixed 6 power scope. Sadly, when it came back that was gone. Replaced with something more modern. I do have a couple of these rifle scopes available but unfortunately both have mounts with clamps to suit A Hornet length action. IF I can find one / have one in stock by the time anyone wants to buy this then fine. Happy to make it back up to original and discuss.
Otherwise its something newer in suitable rings OR the fixed 100-yard blade and a folding 200-yard option. A fully adjustable double set trigger should allow for absolute precision shooting too. DO SEE comments below BEFORE panicking.
A delightful little ‘micro’ Schnable for-end adds another dimension to a pretty stock with chequering still crisp and sharp considering. The chiselled Butter knife bolt handle is just a dream to look at, touch and use too.
Everything comes together and just completes the classic lines of a superb TOP quality rifle. ANY TOP rifle maker would be proud to lay their name to a rifle like this. It just SCREAMS Quality, Care and Attention to detail right through from tip to toe. The previous owner also informs me it is still REMARKABLY ACCURATE. By that he states well inside 1 MOA with decent factory ammunition.
20 ½” (520mm) Barrel set to a Stock Trigger Pull length of 14 ¾ (375mm). They bring in an O/A measurement of 41 5/8” (1055mm) which tips scales at 6 Lb 11 ½ oz. (3.044 Kg).
The ONLY thing anyone needs to do is simply learn how to safely return it to a standard position. That is EASY. On this particular rifle just lift apply the Safety (Lift it up). For 100% silent release use both your trigger finger plus the second. Holding the set trigger tension with finger 2 squeeze the main trigger with finger 1. That disengages the second ‘set’ trigger onto your second finger. Gently let that forward to its usual rest position. SIMPLE. You can simply apply the safety and then pull the front / standard trigger. However, that will make a light ‘click’. Any quarry close enough may hear and depart, hence the explanation for silent return to standard.
Top of that action Factory machined Dovetail with the usual BRNO Recoil Stop Recess. This also features a top recoil stud recess to accept other brand matching Scope Rings.
The last paragraph was part of the original advert. I STILL think this is that nice I WILL state again, it COULD end up in my own cabinet. It WILL should I decide to part with my existing rifle in this calibre OR get a variation for a second.
This is hopefully also going to appeal MASSIVELY to our delightful ‘cousins’ across the puddle they call the Atlantic. As well as closer to home in Mainland Europe. I’m still happy to export to the US even though we can get sweet bugger all sent back. I do realise your law makers are as mad as ours, so it is what it is. (Just bear in mind it is not inexpensive to get a gun all that way…unless you buy several so costs can divide).
