This rifle comes from an era of quality and attention to detail not really seen these days. The Barrel and Action actually stamped up with the detail ‘NOT BRITISH MADE’ set in a box / border. A clear sign of the immense and justified pride this maker had in its guns. Other details include ‘Ndrodnf Podnik’ along with the usual proof marks.
In complete original specification the 22 13/16” (580mm) barrel still sports the open sights with two folding leaf. These give 50, 75 and 100 yard / meter range settings. Overall length is 40 ¾” (1035mm) with a pull length of 13 7/8” (353mm). Including the distictive thin white packing beneath the original but plate.
Given a production date all the way back to 1951 this rifle is Excellent / Superb Condition. It is also getting past being bought as a ‘nostalgia’ piece. If we say someone was 10 years old when they get their first rifle like this. That would put them fast approaching 80 now! As such, still a little time yet but what is left is ticking by quickly.
With the usual Schnabel Forend the stock shows some Good Grain pattern. In general the whole thing WILL benefit form a good clean. The years of use with ‘shooting hands’ would easily clean. That will let out some more grain pattern and figure. Some would while some would not, preferring the gun exactly as it is and 100% ‘honest’.
Chequering is also surprisingly sharp still. The action has the older / wider 14mm dovetail and is also drilled and tapped to take other suitable bases. This has been a ‘one owner / one family’ gun since new.
YES, THIS RIFLE IS reasonably expensive for an OLD BRNO but the age, condition and collectability DOES justify the price.
FIND ANOTHER!
The bolt is removed by pushing the trigger as opposed to pulling. As found on newer versions. The safety pivots laterally to the very back of the bolt as opposed to the rear right side.
This IS a TRUE COLLECTORS piece and is only ever going to continue as such. As above, you are going to be HARD pushed to find another with the same credentials or better.
