Model ‘1923’ Sporting .303 British Bolt Action Rifle from BSA.
Not certain exactly what from the larger Dangerous Game options will work and eject cleanly. No doubt there IS plenty of information readily available. The other point to add / consider is the Mauser 98 style Extractor Claw with the exact same ‘Controlled Feed’ feature. As favoured on so many rifles for that shooting. JUST a thought / comment for possible consideration.
24” (610mm) Barrel set to a Stock / Trigger Pull of 13 5/8” (345mm). Together they bring in an Overall length of 44 ½” (1130mm) and tip the scales bare at 8 Lb 2 oz. (3.685 Kg).
A Good Strong Straight Grain English Walnut Stock with mini–Schnabel Style Forend Tip. Raised Cheek Rest but not a ‘Roll over’. As such easily mounted and usable from either shoulder.
Checkering is still what I consider Exceptional given its now over 100 years old. (‘1923’ Model so actually manufactured in the early 1920’s). As is the rest of the rifle, all things factored in.
The fully Manufacturer Detailed Stamped Barrel still offering its Original Open / Iron Sights. Windage and Elevation Adjustable. Also, Pre-Drilled and Tapped Holes to the Action top for Scope mounting bases. Along with the BSA Logo / Badge and ‘Made in England’ detail. The Action also pre-drilled and tapped ready to accept a Target / Dioptre style Peep Sight. I currently have two more examples of this FINE Vintage Rifle in stock. One already pre-fitted with an Original PH P16 Peep Sight. Plenty of these readily available here to add one into the mix if wanted.
Side ‘roller’ Style Large Safety Lever to the Right Side. The Original Black Butt Plate and Pistol Grip Caps with White Contrast Spacers. Both Featuring the usual BSA ‘Piled Arms Logo too.
LOT 13, Described as: ‘BSA A SCARCE .303 NITRO EXPRESS MODEL 1923 BOLT ACTION SPORTING RIFLE’ and HIGHLY COLLECTABLE with a GUIDE price estimate between £500 and £800. ….. BEAR IN MIND there IS ALSO commission and VAT to add on the hammer price.
Admittedly that rifle has some provenance and what appears to be a very nice Walnut stock BUT the BIG plus with THIS rifle is the readily available ammunition in Standard .303 ‘British’ calibre.
It IS actually a rather NICE rifle. Vintage as well as RARE rifle for ANYONE wanting a .303 that is something COMPLETELY different to the usual British Military options of Enfield and P14 etc. or to actually hunt / stalk with and NO REASON why not. At one time, (with the British Empire) this calibre probably and very possibly still does account for more ‘heads’ (both 4 and 2 legged) than any other!
