Sporting Conversion .303 Lee Enfield No 4 Action Bolt Action Rifle BY Parker Hale. 22” (560mm) Barrel set to a LONG Stock / Trigger pull of 14 5/8” (373mm). Overall length measures 42 3/8” (1073mm) and tips scales as pictured at 7 Lb 13 oz (3.543 Kg). Apparently appears to be a Parker Hale conversion but if so, a very early example. The barrel itself may well still be the original given it is individually stamped with ‘44’. I ASSUME that relates to the manufacture / conversion date. However, happy to hear different if anyone has ACCURATE information to offer. The other original military details are still visible but almost polished out.
Specially reduced 5 shot capacity detachable magazine. Finishing just past flush with the lines of the stock and trigger guard / magazine housing. If you want / need a higher ‘reserve’ a standard 10 round Enfield No4 magazine will simply swap out / slip straight in. I will have one available at a discounted price if required.
Rosewood Forend Tip and Pistol Grip Cap with White contrast spacer to accentuate the Upgrade. Raised Cheek Rest and 1” (25mm) Recoil pad. A Strong Straight Grain. However, as can easily be seen, this has had an additional slip-on additional recoil pad fitted. The resulting darker discolouration clear. Quite WHY certainly is a fair question. A previous owner must have been the best part of 7ft tall given the already long stock measurement!
The action is also already pre-drilled and tapped ready to accept Scope bases and mounts. IF this was being used with a scope the eye relief (or the fella’s neck) must have been massive. From a practical point of view, I have no other sensible explanation.
In someways I would even suggest this is ‘halfway’ attractive as far as I am concerned. You can agree and enjoy it or disagree and think about replacing / re-finishing. Personally, I would just use it as is and ENJOY my shooting. However, YOU are the customer so ultimately your money and your choice. To my eye it blends in Very Well with the Dark Forend Tip and Grip cap already detailed.
The original finish to the timber is also in as good a condition as the metalwork. Both still at almost 100% condition. All in all, I consider this to be a VERY NICE example.
Currently fitted with an Original Parker Hale Rear Scope Dovetail Base / Peep ‘Battle’ sight. Ready to shoot with the Shrouded Ramp Mounted Front Bead. The ‘standard’ / fixed peep hole for 100 yards when laid flat.
My last one of these rifles JUST sold at £599.99 and was a fair way from as nice. As such, at this asking price it IS something of a bargain. The bore IS clean but not great. Rifling still easy enough to see but there is general frosting internally. EQUALLY given now OVER 80 years old and used I don’t consider it bad. The proof (as always) will be found 100 yards down range.
