As the saying goes: to every ‘up’ there is always a ‘down’. In the case of .270 rifles the ‘cost’ was one or both of the following:
Where .243 or .308 etc. go bang a .270 DOES go BOOM! The second ‘debt’ to pay was often SEVERE recoil. Many ended up with at best a bruised scope eye. At worst blood running down. Often at the cost of even reasonable accuracy. HOWEVER, such was the knock down power shot placement did not need to be perfect.
Hence why Estate Stalkers, Guides and many Riflemen ‘took the pain’.
HOW times have changed. With that change now everyone and their dog can have a moderator. No longer is permission even required. The TWO things sound mods do is CUT the noise PLUS Seriously Reduce Recoil.
As such the .270 IS now as ‘tame’ as any other general calibre but RETAINS its FANTASTIC Terminal performance down range. Hence my initial comment (that I HAVE been spouting for at least ¼ of a century). Someone within the media PLEASE drive a resurgence for this one!
Other than that, and for anyone who already knows;
