Traditional BSA Factory Selected Lee Enfield SMLE .303 Bolt Action Target Rifle. This can sell as showing and COMPLETE with Original Dioptre Target Sights. OR the bare rifle to shoot with its standard ‘Battle’ / open sights. Even set up with a scope if necessary.
25 1/8” (638mm) 5 Groove Rifling Barrel and Stock / Trigger Pull of 13 ¼” (337mm). Combined (and the front bayonet lug) brings in an overall length at 44 3/8” (1127mm). Scales offer up a weight as showing, with PH sight, of 9 Lb 13 ½ oz (4.461 Kg). That INCLUDES the contemporary Military / Webbing Sling. Quite a Well Patterned Butt too with the usual Heavy Brass Butt Plate. Hinged access door to the oil bottle and cleaning pull through storage. An Original Brass bottle still inside. Also, not that common, the Magazine Cut Off Plate still in place too.
Left side of the Action Band Stamped with the Crown and GR (for George Regina, the then King). BSA & Co beneath. It appears un-issued for Military Service as no date stamp at all to the action. Possibly re-barrelled in 1943 as there is a 43 plus BNP / CIP stamps under the rear clip-on top wood.
Original Open / Battle Sights graduated from 200 to 2000 Yards with mid distance increments on the scale. Increasing in distance as the range increases etc.
For those with a ‘good’ eye (or not), you might notice the additional Barrel Band toward the front end. Another RARE piece these days as this is an ORIGINAL and GENUINE BRITISH made Jubilee Clip. It even has it stamped on along with Patent Applied for! The only reason I can think of is the front top wood was starting to arch up / away from the main for-end. A previous owner simply checking what he had available in his shed and simply sliding and tightening up. There it remains. Let’s call it ‘Character’?
Obviously, it will come off easily enough, but I do suspect there will be a mark / discolouration to some degree. It has been in place for quite some time. Very likely decades given the provenance. On the same line this also has a strengthening cross action / stock bolt just forward of the magazine housing. Just detailing. Nothing more and very probably a wise move anyway.
Regardless of any of this it IS still a VERY Nice and Excellent example. Especially for a rifle now circa 100 years old and more.
