Description

BERETTA 686 SILVER PIGEON 12G OVER AND UNDER SHOTGUN.

More than Nice enough example of the Iconic 12g Over and Under 686 Silver Pigeon Shotgun from Beretta, Italy. 28” (710mm) Fixed Choke Game Gun with a ¼” (6mm) Ventilated Rib with Front Sight Bead. Single selective Trigger so easy enough to swap between the tight ¼ (bottom barrel) and ½ top restrictions. Standard 2 ¾” (70mm) chambers (and NO ONE realistically needs any more).

Stock pull currently measures to a long 14 1/8” (360mm) and brings in an overall length of 45 ¼” (1155mm). Scales register a ½ oz over 7 Lb dead (3.186 Kg).

A Lightweight Game Gun, Especially considering the Over and Under construction. The usual Top Tang mounted Safety and Barrel Selector. Bright Finished Action with Full Scroll Work Engraving and still nice and Tight to the Face.

Some Decent Pattern and Contrast to the Stock and For-End with still Very Reasonably Crisp / Sharp Checkering. A Flush Inlet and still Blank Matching Round, Bright Steel, Escutcheon to the bottom of the Pistol grip. Original Gold wash to the Trigger Blade itself is showing wear but is still almost 100% to each side. As such, yes, this has certainly seen some use. However, I would suggest still WAY BELOW average. Minimal R/H Cast so likely to mount equally well to either shoulder. The ONLY way is to try it for yourself.

Yes, certainly an older example. However, to MANY, better guns than those available new today. Plus a MASSIVE saving too.

As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:

THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. IF its so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?

Anyway, take a look for yourself:

NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.

YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!

On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.
