MERKEL OVER AND UNDER 12G SHOTGUN.         

12G Over and Under Shotgun, Made by Merkel, Germany and Stamped with ‘Retailed by S. J. Carr & Co Ltd’. That Engraved to the Left Hand of the Top Chamber / Barrel area. They are 28″ (710mm) with 2 3/4″ (70mm) Chambers and fixed chokes at ¼ (B) and ¾ (T). Stock pull measures a straight 14″ (355mm) and has an Extremely Slender Pistol Grip. That includes the 1/2″ (12mm) Red Recoil Pad. It will certainly suit a smaller hand but equally good in my own (which is not). Total Length comes in at 44 1/8″ (1120mm) and scales register a Nice 6 Lb 7 oz (2.917 Kg). Basically, close to a Decent Side by Side! 

3 Piece For-end too. 

This gun is a DOUBLE Trigger Ejector. ANYONE struggling to swap from traditional Side by Side to a more usual single trigger Over and Under? This COULD be / IS the answer. I know I would take half a day and many missed opportunities when going back to my Side by Side. Some swap out, no problem and good for them / you. Some do not but occasionally want to shoot O/U. This solves any problems.

As above, this is fully detailed with the Retailers name S. J. Carr & Co. Ltd. A quick search shows a couple of trading addresses in the heart of London but not for long. Maybe 3 to 4 years. I cannot find much more and given retailers and not manufacturers it’s probably not worth further investigation. However, the detail MAY be of interest to someone. 

Merkel Shotguns themselves ARE Higher End, Top Quality pieces made in Germany. New examples today will certainly be in excess of £15,000. I think, from memory, the last new one I sold was closer to £20K. 

The Stock is Quite a Pretty Well Grained and Highly Patterned example. A Bright finished Action with Light Scroll Pattern Hand Engraving. Built in Cocking Indicators too. There is also a blank Flush Fitted Oval Escutcheon. 

Here is your chance of a ‘High End’ Quality shotgun at a seriously sensible price. With reasonable use and care it’s a gun that will see another lifetime of shooting and still be here.

As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.

That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream). Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!

HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?

THEN THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. Given its supposedly so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters. How is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
