Original Model 1200 VC (Varmint Clip Magazine) Heavy Barrel .223 Long Range Varmint / Target Rifle from Parker Hale. These were the first rifles I can think of ever ‘mass’ produced in a heavy barrel .223. Original catalogue specifications detail a 4 lb Specially Selected and Only Best Quality barrels were used on these guns. Originally, they were offered in other calibre’s and hinged floor plate option only. Detachable magazine examples are rare enough is standard sporting versions. In a Varmint rifle they are almost unheard of. As such a seriously rare example. I also have NO DOUBT at all that this will compete and is still capable of beating most things available today.
24″ (610mm) None Screw Cut Heavy Barrel set to a Trigger Pull length of 14″ (355mm). They give an overall length of 44 7/8″ (1140mm) ad bare weight of 9 lb 5 ½ oz (4.237 Kg). Metal work is in the Original but far from common Matt Blacked Parkerized finish. Everything also 100% Correctly and Originally marked up with Manufacturers details, Proof stamps and Specs. etc.
The front Action Ring is Fully Bedded in the stock, but this too IS as per catalogue Specifications. A Standard Original Fully Adjustable Parker Hale Trigger with Gold Washed Blade. Last bit to detail is a Flush Inlet Accessory Rail to the For-end. This is the fixed position screw in style with drilled and tapped holes at 1/2″ (12.7mm) centres.
A Very Pretty, Highly Decorative Walnut Stock with Excellent Grain Pattern. Further enhanced with Strong Vertical Tiger Stripe Highlights to both sides. The usual Dark Rosewood Tip and Grip Cap with White Spacer, just to extenuate the detail. The same to the branded 3/4″ (19mm) Recoil Pad. Skip or Fox Cut Chequering. A feature I personally like as it just sets the grip areas aesthetically. High Gloss Varnish Finish which is something I wish they never bothered with. It does tend to damage quite easily, especially as age relentlessly continues to creep by. However, this is still in Remarkably clean and close to original condition. A few light blemishes and no more.
Bolt knob finish also shows minimal use to date. Double Confirmed by the Still As New Original Browned finish to the Full-Length Extractor Claw.
I will say again: Pretty sure this will compete and very possibly beat just about anything available Brand New. Certainly, when in the right hands.
