Description

PARKER HALE 12G OVER AND UNDER SHOTGUN.

12G Now quite rare example of an Over and Under Shotgun from the Iconic British gun maker Parker Hale. Admittedly they did not actually manufacture this as it is detailed Made in Italy to the bottom barrel under the forend. Original catalogues only detail ‘Designed by Parke Hale and built by one of Italy’s masters of the gunmakers art’.

The gun does not actually match up to any of the catalogue specifications. With the Red Recoil pad and this engraving it SHOULD be a Model 704 Trap. However at 8 lbs 7oz (3.823 Kg) it should be a Model 804 Trap but the engraving is different. The 804 is also detailed with a tapering rib where this is parallel as for the 704. Also chokes do not match either.

All this is based on the No 85 and 86 Catalogues so it is very possible the gun corresponds to an earlier or later version. Makes no REAL difference as this gun is what it is with the specification it has as below.

30” (Actually 29 7/8” (758mm) Fixed Coke Barrels with ¼ restriction to the bottom and Modified top and standard 2 ¾” (70mm) Chambers. Barrels are specified as Chrome Lined. Parallel raised and vented 12mm rib with matt machining to either side of a plain finished sighting line fitted with front and middle bead. Semi-beavertail chequered forend matching the HIGHLY Patterned Dark but Very Decorative Walnut Stock. This has some Great Contrast with Excellent Cross Grain Tiger Stripe Highlights. A VERY GOOD LOOKING GUN. Pull is a long 14 7/8” (377mm) including the inch Red Recoil pad. It also features a very nice Palm Swell to the grip for a firm and comfortable hand position. None selective trigger and manual safety. Standard engraving to the bright finished action.

It actually reminds me of some higher grade Winchester guns from the past in look and feel.

EXCELLENT condition considering now, at absolute minimum it is 30 years old.

THE STEEL SHOT DEBACLE?

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. APPARENTLY so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters? How is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:
NOW, TRY and help speed up availability. I WILL suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ask whoever we buy from WHY they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through, but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.                                                     RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
