Black Synthetic .308 Bolt Action ‘Safebolt’ Rifle from Steyr Mannlicher, Austria.
23 ½” (597mm) Barley Twist Pattern Lightweight Barrel, pre screw cut at ½”x20 UNF. All ready to accept a sound moderator of choice. Plenty of those readily available to choose from too. Stock / Trigger Pull is currently 12 ¾” (325mm). However, I do have two clip in spacer pieces available if required. Each adds approx. ½” (12mm). Current overall length, as pictured is 43 3/8” (1100mm) and scales register 7 Lb 9 ¼ oz (3.437 Kg).
The usual, well tested and flawless feed Steyr Detachable Flush Rotary Magazine. Double click release with a catch on each side. As such, NOT easy to lose even when crawling about on your belly. Both the Metalwork and Stock in ALMOST As New / Unused condition. The action pre-drilled to take either hole centre bases. Older rifles had much closer screw holes. This will take matching bases as well as newer wider spaced options.
They can be adjusted out of play all together and just operate as a standard trigger. However, ALL ANYONE NEEDS TO DO is simply learn how to disengage it safely. That is simplicity itself. Yes, different riles have different methods but none are difficult if you have even half a brain. The BIG ADVANTAGE of learning how to use one is usually seen down range. Most people see a BIG improvement in accuracy once they get used to shooting with one. In the case of this rifle ALL YOU NEED TO DO Is simply roll the TANG mounted safety back to either of the SAFE positions. If you need silence gently grab the trigger between thumb and fore finger and move it back to its Standard Trigger position. If you don’t have sufficient faith in that (or yourself) simply LIFT THE BOLT HANDLE and pull the bolt part way back. Then move the trigger back.
The rifle also features a cocking indicator to the back of the bolt. As detailed these rifles have a Tang Mounted Roller Style Safety. Also, a Fully Ambidextrous Stock. EASILY mounting to either shoulder. Yes, the bolt is right-handed but everything else works for a ‘Lefty’ after that. Its also a 3-position operation. First is Fully forward and showing Red for FIRE. Roll it part way back to SAFE position ONE and the WHITE ‘lug’ pops up. This allows the bolt to be opened. Position three (second SAFE position) locks the bolt closed. Probably too much information for many. In reality, it’s ALL EASY.
Other than that, these are generally GREAT rifles and Inherently Very Accurate. Most people who buy one tend to stick with the brand for years. Certainly, never at the cheaper end of the market when new either and for GOOD reason.
