An ‘American Enfield’ Military Remington Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle in 7.62mm Nato. An ‘Oldie’ but still a ‘GOODIE’. The front action rings fully detailed U.S. Model 1917 Remington with the Serial Number.
This is on the register as .308 but also detailed / stamped as 7.62 so should be good to go on either designation on a FAC.
If you do not yet have that it IS always best to request permission for either / or. They are to all intent and purpose the same round apart from a slightly different shoulder angle. Talk to me if you are not sure.
25 ¾” (653mm) Long Range Target Weight Barrel tapering from approx. 1” (25mm) at the chamber to a ¾” (19mm) muzzle. This is also stamped ‘Re-Barrelled by ROY DUNLAP.
The Action drilled and tapped to take Scope Bases and / or an original Dioptre style target sight. Not easy to find but I may be able to find or even have one available. Also at a discounted price when purchased together with the rifle.
Side mounted safety and the trigger has DEFINITELY had some work done to it. It breaks beautifully crisp and clean and is a fully adjustable Match grade unit.
Like the early Mauser actions the bolt cocks on closing.
Everything set into a Very Nice Laminated Walnut Stock with 14 5/8” (365mm) Pull including the ½” (12mm) Extension. It also incorporates a Flush Fitting Target Accessory rail to the bottom of the Forend. A couple of very minor blemishes otherwise generally very clean. Raised Cheek Piece and some Reasonable Grain Pattern with Excellent contrast between layers. One small point to detail is immediately to the rear of the action. It appears the stock screws may well have worked loose at some point OR the original timber left slightly long. Either way the recoil has set up a very minor shear to the wood. NOTHING wrong with shooting the rifle as is. It would / could relatively easily simply sand off and re-finish. Or simply remove it and do some minor re-profile work. For what it is Option 1 would make the most sense to me.
Otherwise a NICE as well as CLEAN Iconic Vintage Target Rifle finishing at 47” (1194mm), tipping scales at 10 Lbs 10 ½ oz. (4.836 Kg).
