LINSLEY BROTHERS. LEEDS. 12G SIDE by SIDE HAMMER GUN.

Linsley Brothers of Leeds, 12g Side by Side, Top Lever Opening, NONE Ejector Hammer Gun. This will prove difficult to find anything similar, especially one in as SUPERB condition. Generally excellent throughout, even the colour case hardening to the locks and action top is still distinct. OK, the trigger guard tang and bottom of the action are showing use. The original finish is just about clean in places but this would be an easy and inexpensive re-blue job. At 46 9/16” (1182mm) overall the gun weighs in at a clean 6lbs 12oz. (3.013 Kg). The 14 ¼” (362mm) stock is actually really well but finely figured with an almost ‘double’ tiger stripe effect. Difficult as it is to capture with the camera I have tried. It IS PRETTY. A flush inlet oval escutcheon is untouched and ready for YOUR initials!

Barrels are 30 1/8” (765mm) and choked tight cylinder to the right with matching tight full to the left. They come with a sunken parallel rib. Fully engraved with the makers details etc. and traditional English game 2  ½” (65mm) chambers. Proof stamped for Black Powder as well as Nitro. Weight is 6 Lbs 11oz (3.031 Kg). Barrel Walls are coming in as good as new at a minimum of 44 thou at 14”. That is in a single small spot while everywhere else is even better! A snap on forend with a Black Buffalo Horn Tip finishes things off.

GENERALLY.

This IS a FANTASTIC little gun. ALWAYS VERY sought after from a ‘local’ and popular Northern gun maker. Supplied fitting neatly into its original hard Canvas and Leather trimmed travel case with makers trade label etc. It will be hard work to find another and that is if there even is one.

There IS a LOT of great shooting left in the gun. Yes used but obviously very little and VERY well cared for over the years. I would consider it an investment. As time ticks by guns like this will only get more difficult to find and always be in demand. With this combination there is generally only one end result. In the interim take care of it AND have serious fun actually using it.

THE STEEL SHOT DEBACLE?

FIRST THING:  Given lead is SO dangerous, can we ask about getting every lead water main replaced? After all, ANYONE with one of those still supplying water has zero choice. LETS PUT THAT QUESTION TO HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE AS WELL AS THE GOVERNMENT.
That is every child’s grazed knee washed out with lead infested water (direct into their blood stream. Every glass of juice. Every cup of tea or coffee, Vegetables washed and cooked in the stuff. ALL that DELICIOUS Gravy. Cloths washed in it. Then we bath in the sodding lead infested stuff!
HOW DO THEY DEFEND THIS FACT?
THEN THERE ARE more and more Non-Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern-day shooting. APPARENTLY so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters? How is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:
NOW, TRY and help speed up availability. I WILL suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ask whoever we buy from WHY they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through, but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons.                                                     RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
