CLASSIC London made 12G Side by Side Boxlock Ejector Shotgun from Joseph Lang. Actually one of my old guns (2nd I ever bought) that keeps finding its way back ‘home’. Still have the first! Took me long enough to decide to let this go. A few years later it came back as the customer decided he wanted a lighter gun and took another Lang but in 20 Bore bought elsewhere. Could not hit as many birds with the 20 so came back and took this away again. Now health issues have forced him to say goodbye to shooting all together so everything is back here.
Traditional 28” (710mm) fixed choke barrels at ? and ? with Standard 2 ½” (65mm) English Game Chambers. Trigger pull currently measures 14 7/8” (378mm) with the extension piece fitted by myself many years ago. Original length is still 14” (356mm) so Very Possibly long enough for many back to that. Overall length is currently 45” (1143mm) and weighs in at an EASY carry 6 Lbs 6 ½ oz (2.909 Kg). Concave Tapering Sight Rib with single Brass Bead and FULLY Engraved Makers Detail. ‘Joseph Lang & Son. 102 New Bond Street, London. W.’. Proof stamps detail 1 1/8 oz load which is NOT needed. Stick with 7/8 or once and enjoy your shooting. As with ANYTHING in this world its about ACCURACY. You can pull the trigger on a gun throwing out 1 ½ Lbs of shot. Leaving you on your backside in the mud with a dislocated shoulder. If the cloud of shot is not in the right place as the target goes by its still a miss!
A plain finished action with minimal Border Line Engraving and Makers Name. Barrel Blueing is showing a little wear but still perfectly good and useable for many years yet. Or have refinished if preferred. Its perfectly good to use exactly as is.
Just use another alternative anyway. Even with a brand new Fleur de Lisle stamp. Ill NEVER put steel through a gun.
Chequering is still More than reasonable for the age this gun will be. The Stock with some Excellent Grain Pattern and Deep Colour Contrast. Unused Flush Inset Bright Silver Oval Escutcheon to the bottom. Buffalo Horn Forend Tip finishing the spec. detail.
As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:
THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. IF its so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?
Anyway, take a look for yourself:

NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.
YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!
On that note I AM looking into the possibility of stocking some direct from Steve at Hortons. RING for an update and keep checking the web site.
