Description

BSA (SMLE) LEE ENFIELD .303 BOLT ACTION SERVICE RIFLE.

BSA manufactured, Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE), Bolt Action .303 Service rifle. In STUNNING condition and detailed as ‘Regulated by Fulton’s’ (of Bisley). It will have originally been checked and selected here for sniper / target shooting disciplines. Still retaining full original military specification with the ramped fore sight and standard tangent. Windage adjustable, rear ‘V’ notch  battle sight graduated from 200 to 2000 yards It even has the original magazine cut off etc. An army issue pull through rope and weight is also here, set into the hinged trap door butt plate.  With a well figured and pretty 13” pull stock this is certainly a very nice looking rifle. Another little ‘touch’ is the slight ‘inlet’ to the left hand forend just where your thumb sits. It just allows that little better grip to keep the butt nicely into the shoulder.

I used to have a couple of similar rifles in my own cabinet. I eventually, recently sold both because of lack of time to use them. Given the overall condition of this there may well be a replacement going back in. It IS that nice inside and out.

Currently fitted with an older and CERTAINLY unusual / less common original Alfred J. Parker ‘Bisley Works’ micro adjustable target sight. This has the standard adjustable 6 hole iris. It’s actually the first one of this exact pattern I have seen. It differs from the more usual examples in being stamped as Bisley Works. There is also the adjustable datum to the range scale/s.

The standard format 25 ½” barrel has an excellent bore too. All in all just a SUPERB example of this iconic military rifle that saw service for many years on every continent around the world. They gave us the freedom we retain to this day. We all owe this rifle a LOT (maybe not this particular one). It’s also very likely to have accounted for more game than any other calibre out there. Two or four legged! Consider how widespread and extensive the British Empire once was.

It IS actually a VERY effective round on live quarry too!

The listed price is for the BARE RIFLE ONLY. These target sights regularly sell between £200 to £250 (and more) on well-known auction sites and this IS a rare example on top. It will be available with the rifle but the price WILL be to add on.

It’s also unusual in that even with the adjustable sight removed the action has no date stamp or any other details but the rear ‘button’ bolt pull indicates an older model. The ONLY detail to the action is on the right hand strap consisting of BSA Co. This would probably go a long way to explaining why it’s in the great condition it is.
