‘Beaver tail’ Stocked, Classic .308 Winchester Bolt Action Sporting Rifle from Parker Hale, England.
Original 23 ½” (597mm) barrel set to a Stock Length / Trigger Pull of 14” (355mm). Overall, the rifle measures 44 5/8” (1133mm) and a bare weight of 7 Lb 7 oz (3.37 Kg).
Metalwork inside and out is in EXCELLENT condition. The Traditional Gun Blued finish still a Deep Lustrous finish. Original iron / open sights still in situ too. The front bead ramp does have a couple of scratches. No doubt from the protector hood at some point. A Bright Finished Bolt for contrast with the usual ‘huge’ full length Mauser 98 style extractor claw. Unusually for a Parker Hale the hinged floor plate on this example is plain and black. Not the usual embossed Rams Head.
Traditional Walnut woodwork with some Excellent Grain Highlights along the full length, both sides. Rosewood For-end Tip, Right Hand Palm Swell grip and Original Recoil Pad. The usual Fully Adjustable Trigger too. These REALLY ARE SUPERBLY made rifles from a time of REAL craftsmanship counted.
Yes, there are a few minor knocks, marks and blemishes but all reflected in the price. The stock would easily re-finish and look even prettier with a little work.
Also to consider is that the .308 Winchester IS THE Most Versatile calibre EVER. There is nothing else available with such a diverse range of possible bullet weights.
Basically, anything from 70 through to 220 Gr. Admittedly, the bulk at either end will very likely need to be home loaded. But the option IS there and could prove to be EXCELLENT research. Along with EQUALLY EXCELLENT fun.
At this money you could buy it for nothing else other than to simply try various bullet weights.
