Anyone old enough may well remember seeing these on their club ranges. This example dates to production in 1969.
As images show, it does require a suitable stock. However, that does need to be a true Left Shoulder mount / Cheek Rest and / or Thumb-hole version. However, the bolt recess needs to be to the right-hand side, as for a rifle in that format.
Also, look closely at the extended and cranked / swept over bolt handle. They ARE ODD and Operation does take a little to get used to. It goes against ‘natural instinct’. Instead of lifting the bolt up to allow it to slide back and forth this needs the bolt handle pulling down. Obviously, the reverse applies to close the bolt and fire. I DO recall I have tried more than one of these over the years. Even as a Right-handed shot I found I soon worked the bolt remarkably easily.
ANYONE out there with one hanging about / laying around then please get in touch. It would be GREAT to marry them up.
Anyone out there wanting the rifle in a Sporting Format then I can easily sort out fitting one of these new stocks. However, there will be costs involved over and above the price of said timber. They are already recessed for a detachable magazine. The Match 54 does NOT accept a multi-shot magazine as they are ‘Single shot’ load and fire only. As such this recess would need professionally filling in.
I only list the barrelled action and possible options for information. Yes, hopefully to generate enough interest for someone to buy too. As above, someone somewhere WILL have an original stock collecting dust. Very probably looked at it and wondered what the hell fitted! If so, then here is your answer.
Obviously, I can only list the barrel length which is the usual 27” (695mm). Stock / Trigger Pull length will depend on the timber. As will the overall size and weight. Other than that the metalwork is in Excellent overall condition, inside and out. Fully Adjustable Match Grade Trigger and Original Base Blocks still in place.
Last one of these I sold went to a customer who needed a Left-Handed Stock but right-handed bolt operation. He had damaged right eyesight so had to swap shoulders to shoot. However, he could NOT get used to using his left hand. That had the cranked portion sawn away, the stump threaded and a new knob screwed on.
That is another solution for someone else in a similar position.
Obviously, the final price will depend upon exactly what is required but if interested PLEASE get in touch. Happy to try my best to get something to work to keep us both happy.
As things are I do (SURPRISINGLY) HAVE ANOTHER complete rifle coming in! Appears ‘SODS LAW’ playing its usual part. NEVER see these for years. I finally decide to pull this out of storage and advertise it, and another decides to make an appearance.
