TRUE Left-Handed Action .375 Holland and Holland Magnum Bolt Action Mauser ‘MO3 Africa’ Rifle. Just about As New, like SO MANY BIG Calibre rifles tend to be. Certainly, here in the UK at least. Generally purchased to help fulfill a ‘Bucket List’ / dream of a Big Game Safari and once done tucked away. Brought out and looked at for the memories, nostalgia and MAYBE an odd trip to the shooting range.
That said, THIS rifle came in along with a matching Left-Handed MO3 in .458 Lott. Along with an additional .300 Win Mag Barrel. All three HAVE been to Africa and other places to great success. The previous owner having the means / (AMPLE) funds to basically go where and when the fancy took him. Sadly, now a victim of Alzheimer’s where NO amount of money can help. Hence the guns are here. Even so, still minimal actual use with any of them in REAL terms.
I remember well when these rifles were first launched and presented to the public. It was my first and only trip to the BIG IWA Trade Fare in Nuremberg, Germany. From ALL the various Multi-Barrel Rifles before and since these ARE still, BY FAR, THE BEST. Just my own personal opinion and you can agree or don’t. However, the Design, Build and Ease of Use along with other features, not least versatility is yet to be bettered.
The ONLY thing left is pushing the Rear of Bolt positioned Safety across into the FIRE position. Doing so actually Cocks the bolt. A FANTASTIC SAFETY Feature as this is what tensions the Firing Pin and Spring. Up until you engage FIRE the rifle CANNOT discharge. Regardless of if dropped, squashed, kicked or even squeeze the trigger.
Barrel measures to 25 9/16” (650mm). Both Rifles are in Black Synthetic Stocks and offer a Trigger Pull at 14 ½” (370mm). Tactile, Anti-Slip Grip areas offering a Superbly Solid and Positive hold and shoulder mount. In heat or cold, Africa to Alaska! Overall, the rifle finishes at a straight 46” (1170mm) and Tips Scales Bare, as images, at 9 Lbs 1 ½ oz. (4.118 Kg).
As detailed these rifles feature Detachable Magazines. This being in .375 Calibre the barrel comes fitted with Adjustable Open / Iron Sights. The Rear with Windage Screws to Each Side and Front with Elevation. Perfect for Driven and / or Dangerous Game.
Fitted with a Push Forward Set / Hair Trigger which will (likely) adjust out if wanted. However, they DO tend to improve accuracy given chance and a little time. The ONLY thing you need to know is how to return it to ‘standard’. With this simply keep your finger away from the trigger. Depress the Tang Mounted Safety Locking Button and let it return to the non-fire position. Once de-cocked and safe the trigger blade itself can be moved to its normal position. Job Done!
