Description

SECTION 58 / NO LICENSE REQUIRED 10 BORE CHARLES LANCASTER UNDER LEVER SIDE BY SIDE HAMMER SHOTGUN.

YES, A DELIGHTFUL 10 Bore Side by Side Charles Lancaster Hammer gun with zero restrictions on purchase as Section 58.

NO LICENSE REQUIRED.

Chamber length renders this gun now OBSOLETE so available for anyone to purchase.

The Browned Barrels measure 29 5/8” (753mm). Chokes irrelevant as its NOT being fired. Stock offers up a 14 3/8” (365mm) pull bringing in an Overall length of 46 ¼” (1175mm). The gun weighs in at 7 ½ Lbs dead (3.403 Kg).

Both Hammers finished with a Deep Blue (almost going Yellow) Heat Treatment. Beautifully Contrasting against the Bright Finished, Hand Engraved Scroll Work Locks. Bolstered Action Shoulders with the Tang, Lever and Trigger Guard all matching etc. Even the Metal Butt Plate Wrapping over and let flush into the top has Matching Engraving.

Sunken Matching Brown Tapering Concave Rib. Fully Detailed with CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.

The Stock is Very Well Patterned and WAY past ‘Bonny enough’. A Strong Tight Straight Grain with some Heavy Cross Pattern Highlights. Still in place and unused a matching silver finished flush escutcheon. Ready for initials or crest etc.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET OR GET TEMPTED to load your own or try to find any suitable cartridges. The second you do, guns like this are no longer exempt from certification. As such you are immediately in breach of Firearms Law. GET CAUGHT and you WILL find yourself in front of a Judge. OK, if you have a current Shotgun Certificate you can enter the gun on there and be legal to possess and shoot etc. However, I have no idea what wall thickness measures. Neither am I interested in checking. This is sold as a NONE-USABLE / OBSOLETE shotgun. The onus ENTIRELY upon the buyer to comply with any and all legislation as well as safety.

This IS an ABSOLUTE CRACKER of a gun. In reality, a MASSIVE shame it is no longer readily usable. The REAL ‘GEM’ hidden until you open the action. Do that and find its ‘SECRET’!

EXCEPTIONAL Gun Smithing Workmanship. The bulk of shotguns have ‘flats’ to the action and barrel bottoms where the two ‘marry’ when closed. Getting this to as near perfect fit as is needed is a highly skilled job itself. ANYONE who understands even the basics of barrel fitting knows this only too well.

How about the level of SKILL and Workmanship required to do that level of matching symmetry for a curve?!

THAT is what you get with this gun. The barrels joined together and finished off with a Convex base to the chambers. Accordingly, the Action also made with a perfectly matching Concave bed.

I DARE say there will be very few capable of such work today!

It REALLY IS a ‘WOW’ moment to anyone with much engineering or gun making interest and understanding.

I SUSPECT designed and made like this to drop the recoil point to a matching lower position in the shoulder. ANYONE with any REAL / ACCURATE information PLEASE do share. Happy to stand corrected / add it to the listing.

For a ‘Big-Bore’ (if correct) this could have proven extremely beneficial for each and every shot fired.

I AM just guessing at that detail. However, I cannot REALLY understand why else so much skill, time and effort would be committed if not.

To my mind, CERTAINLY a TRUE COLLECTORS piece. Even if never fired again. This detail is certainly something I can not recall ever seeing before.

BEFORE you ‘baulk’ at the price DO PLEASE check out what de-comm and Section 58 guns are making these days. Most in nowhere even close condition and CERTAINLY ANYWHERE even closely interesting. If it is too deep for your pockets simply keep looking for something within your budget. PLEASE. I no longer have time (desire OR patience) to justify or argue. THANKS.
As for the Lead Sh-t ‘FIASCO’? READ ON:

THERE ARE more and more None Toxic Shot alternatives being produced. WITH near matching performances to traditional lead and close to, if not matching pressures. Take a look at Horton Gunmakers for their own entry into this debacle of modern day shooting. IF its so lethally deadly to shooters and game eaters how is it every old lead water main supply pipe is not getting ripped out and replaced? To my mind it’s a DISGRACE that the shooting industry did not simply ask that one simple question. NO, they saw an excuse to charge a fortune and that mainly to the detriment of the quarry. Just my opinion …..for what its worth?

Anyway, take a look for yourself:

NOW, to TRY and help speed up availability I WILL also suggest that YOU pass on details to everyone you know who shoots. Then ALL of us start to ask whoever we buy from why they are not DEMANDING cartridges made in this material? Basically VOTE with your WALLET.

YES, it will take a little time for everything to filter through but patience IS a virtue. It also allows everyone who wants to keep hold of their ‘old favourite’ for the rest of their lives. Even pass it on to the next generation and hopefully beyond!

Sadly Steve has now given up on the UK Gun Trade and left for the US. HOPEFULLY a major producer will adopt and cartridges will eventually travel back this way.
