The images just do not do justice to this gun. Somehow I cannot seem to get the lighting right to show this gun at its best. I will keep trying!
This is a very early example of a 12-Bore ‘MOD. S.2. SOVRAPPOSTO Double Trigger Game gun from PIETRO BERETTA. Italian proof stamps show a manufacture date in 1939. Everything in FANTASTIC condition given it is over 80 years old!
At 7lbs 1oz (3.21Kg) this is a beautifully balanced gun. It almost mounts itself into your shoulder. The Dark Walnut stock has some excellent grain pattern and a half size rounded Prince of Wales Pistol grip. A ½” (12mm) extension and inch (25mm) (possibly horn) butt plate completes it with a pull length of 14 5/8”. The stock is well cast for a right handed shot.
A TRUE Sidelock action hand finished with bouquet and scroll engraving. The underside matches along with the makers details and ‘BREVETTO “1936”. All finished in black to match the barrels with a manual safety and cocking indicators. The top lever has a gold inlay of a flighting pigeon set into it. This suggests it is a ‘Pigeon Grade’ gun.
A tapering solid 6 – 4mm game rib with mirror smooth top matt finish tops the 28 3/8” (720mm) barrels. Traditionally chambered for 2 ¾” (70mm) cartridges. The fixed chokes measure to approx. ¼ and Full..
As said, for a gun of its age it is still in SUPERB condition.
